Prime Minister Manmohan Singh met the Indian medal winners in the Commonwealth Games from which Organising Committee Chairman Suresh Kalmadi and its members were kept out.
A dazzling laser show and a musical extravaganza on marked the finale of the Commonwealth Games, the biggest sporting event hosted by India which crowned itself with sporting glory by winning an unprecedented 101 medals.
It all started with a sole bronze in 1934 in the second edition of the Commonwealth Games and now India has finally breached the 100-mark in the medals tally of the event in the latest edition to occupy the second position in the overall standings.
India's Saina Nehwal won the gold in the women's singles badminton event at the Commonwealth Games, defeating Malaysia's Mew Choo Wong 19-21, 23-21, 21-13 in a cliff-hanger.
World champions Australia trounced India 8-0 to claim the gold in the men's hockey competition of the Commonwealth Games.
